The first water distribution system was installed in the late 1800's. Water treatment began in 1936 and consisted of chlorination. In 1968, the existing treatment plant was put into operation. At the same time, some water mains were replaced with larger mains and some were installed in areas previously not served.
The source of supply is eight deep gravel packed wells. Treatment consists of iron and manganese removal and chlorination. The distribution system covers approximately 60 miles of water mains ranging in size from 2" to 20". The water storage system includes a ground reservoir of 2,000,000 gallons, a ground reservoir with a 1,500,000 gallon capacity and a 150,000 gallon elevated tank. The plant has a design capacity of 12.5 million gallons per day (mgd) and the current average usage is approximately three mgd.
Future Project Plans
The Project consists of construction of water main improvements, treatment facility improvements, an elevated storage tank, and the purchase of an existing building which will be remodeled and used for an administration building.
